Founded in 1917, the Arbitration Institute of the SCC is the leading arbitral institution in Sweden, as well as Scandinavia. It is popular for disputes involving the post-Soviet states.
Association Française d’Arbitrage (AFA)
Founded in 1975, the AFA is an organization based in France which administers both domestic and international arbitration cases.
Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (ACICA)
Founded in 1985, ACICA is the leading body in Australia which manages both international and domestic arbitration cases. It is located in Melbourne.
Beijing Arbitration Commission (BAC)
Established in 1996, BAC is one of the most prominent arbitral institutions in China.
Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA)
Established in 1979, the CRCICA is the most prominent arbitral institution in Egypt.
Centro de Arbitraje de México (CAM)
Founded in 1997, the CAM is the leading body responsible for the administration of arbitral proceedings in Mexico. It is located in Mexico City.
Chamber of National and International Arbitration Milan – “CAMERA ARBITRALE MILANO” (CAM)
Founded in 1985, the Chamber of Arbitration of Milan is a subdivision of the Chamber of Commerce of Milan and is the leading arbitral institution in Italy.
China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC)
Founded in 1956, CIETAC is the oldest and largest arbitration institution in China. Since 2000, it has also been referred to as the Arbitration Court of the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC).
Common Court of Justice and Arbitration (CCJA)
Headquartered in Abidjan, the Ivory Coast, the Common Court of Justice and Arbitration is a leading arbitral institution for supervising regional disputes in members of the OHADA zone, which is predominantly composed of French-speaking West African States.
Court of Arbitration of the Polish Chamber of Commerce –“Sąd Arbitrażowyprzy KrajowejIzbie Gospodarczej” (SAKIG)
Founded in 1950, the Court of Arbitration of the Polish Chamber of Commerce is the main arbitral body in Poland.
Court of International Commercial Arbitration Attached to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CICA)
Founded in 1953 and remodeled in 2007, the CICA is the leading institution for the administration of arbitrations in Romania.
Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC)
Founded in 1994, the DIAC is the leading arbitral body in Dubai, and is commonly used for construction arbitrations involving the Middle East.
German Institution of Arbitration (DIS)
Founded in 1992 following the fusion of the German Arbitration Committee and the German Arbitration Institute, the DIS is the most prominent arbitral body in Germany.
Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC)
Founded in 1985, HKIAC is the leading arbitral institution in Hong Kong, and one of the most prominent arbitral institutions in Asia.
International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID)
Founded in 1966, ICSID is an international arbitral body established under the “Convention on the Settlement of Investment Disputes between States and Nationals of Other States”. Based in Washington, it is the leading international arbitration institution managing investor-State disputes.
International Chamber of Commerce (ICC)
Founded in 1923 and located in Paris, the Arbitration Court of the ICC is the leading and most renowned institution for administering international commercial arbitration cases in France, as well as Europe as a whole. It led the movement that resulted in the adoption of the New York Convention, which is the most important multilateral treaty on international arbitration to have ever been ratified. It is also increasingly being used as a forum for investor-State disputes.
London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA)
The LCIA, whose origin can be traced back as far as 1891, is one of the leading international bodies administering arbitration cases and is the main arbitral institution in the UK.
Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA)
Established in 1899 by the “Convention for the Pacific Settlement of International Disputes”, the PCA is a multinational organization based in the Hague. It administers private, intergovernmental and interstate arbitrations. When parties have not elected an institution to administer their dispute, that it is to say, when the arbitration is “ad hoc”, the PCA may, under the UNCITRAL rules and depending on the parties’ directions, appoint arbitrators or designate an appointing authority. The PCA can also host ad hoc arbitrations.
Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC)
Founded in 1991, the SIAC is the main institution to administer arbitrations in Singapore.
Swiss Chambers Arbitration Institution
Established in 2004 by the Swiss Chambers of Commerce Association for Arbitration and Mediation, the Arbitration Court of the Swiss Chambers Arbitration Institution is the most prominent arbitral body in Switzerland.
United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL)
UNCITRAL itself does not administer arbitration cases, but due to its importance it has been included on this list. UNCITRAL is a United Nations body responsible for drafting international law and rules. Its body of arbitration rules, the UNCITRAL rules, are widely used in ad hoc arbitrations and were revised in 2010. The PCA may, under the UNCITRAL rules and depending on the parties’ directions, appoint arbitrators or designate an appointing authority.
Vienna International Arbitral Centre (VIAC)
Established in 1975, the VIAC is the most prominent arbitral body in Austria.
World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Arbitration and Mediation Centre
Established in 1994, the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Centre, is an international body which specializes in the administration of arbitration disputes involving intellectual property issues.
